Tŷ Newydd – come join me in July 2024!

I have had a wonderful time teaching at Tŷ Newydd the past two summers, and I wanted to flag up that I will be back again in July 2024. The course is called “Editing and Submitting Your Work with Poetry Wales”, and it will feature myself, my colleague Rhian Edwards, and that’s along with a mid-week reading on Zoom by the brilliant poet, Abeer Ameer.

Lovely group at Ty Newydd - pic shows the group lined up around the back of the house - a big bay window above and white chimneys

Here’s the write up:

Are you looking to submit your poetry for the first time? Are you looking to better understand and craft your creative voice? Do you want to learn how to create a concise and cohesive body of work? Join us for a replenishing, instructive and motivational week of poetry writing and editing with the multi-award-winning poets and joint poetry editors of Seren Books, Rhian Edwards and Zoë Brigley.

During the week, Zoë and Rhian will run group workshops on editing your poems, collating your poetry into collections and pamphlets, and will be on-hand to offer tips and advice on how to best pitch your work to magazines and publishers for consideration. A one-to-one tutorial with Zoë and Rhian will be offered to each participant and you will be invited to send a up to two poems each ahead of the course for comments and editorial advice.

I am absolutely delighted that a good number of the writers that I worked with in 2023 are coming back for 2024, so places are filling up fast. Personally, when I am running workshops I tend to adapt my method from Felicia Rose Chavez’s The Anti-Racist Writing Workshop, which I recommend.
